CSIRO Undergraduate Vacation Scholarships

The CSIRO ICT Centre is working to establish Australia as a global ICT
innovator by delivering leading-edge Information and Communication
Technology solutions for industry and society. The Centre has over 250
researchers across Australia working in four capability-based
laboratories and two applications laboratories in four locations,
Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and Hobart:

* Autonomous System
* Networking Technologies
* Wireless Technologies
* Information Engineering
* e-Health Research Centre
* Tasmanian ICT Centre

The 2008 Vacation Scholarship Program is designed to provide students
with the opportunity to work on real-world problems in a leading R&D
organisation. Participation in the Vacation Scholarship Program has
influenced previous scholarship holders in their choice of further study
and future career options. Many have gone on to pursue a PhD in CSIRO or
to build a successful research career within CSIRO, a University or
industry.

The scholarships are open to students who have completed at least 3
years of Undergraduate study and who have maintained a credit average or
higher. The students will be paid a stipend of $550 per week.
Scholarships are to commence early December 2008 and continue for a
period of 8-12 weeks. Each student will undertake a research project
under the supervision of a research scientist or engineer. Presentation
skills training is provided as well as an opportunity to participate in
an end of scholarship conference with other students and CSIRO research
scientists.

ANSTO YEAR-IN-INDUSTRY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, ANSTO, will
again be conducting their Year in Industry Internship Program in 2009.
Based in Southern Sydney, ANSTO is currently seeking applications from
undergraduates to take up internships during 2009. The program provides a
relevant industry based learning opportunity for students to apply theory
and skills to the workplace.

There are various internships offered with engineering and science

$120k - Research Opportunity

The University of Ballarat is offering a unique opportunity for students
undertaking PhD studies in the area of Internet Commerce Security to receive
$120k over three years. You will work on real problems and data related to
current fraud activity faced by many financial organisations in the world of
eFinance and eSecurity.

The University of Ballarat, Westpac Banking Corporation and IBM have jointly
established the Internet Commerce Security Laboratory (ICSL) to carry out
research into Internet Commerce Security. It will focus on addressing some of
the most critical issues in the Internet Commerce Sector in the management of
identity, internet fraud, trust and the use of the internet. Research projects
will be in areas related to information security and data mining.

To be successful in your application you must have:
. A first class honours degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information
Technology or Mathematics
. Excellent communication skills
. Ability and aptitude for both a research and commercial environment

You must be willing to:
. Successfully complete a PhD in this research area
. Be part of a motivated, dynamic and creative environment
. Apply your knowledge to critical real world problems
. Be ready for employment opportunities that will exist in this field

Scholarship: $26,000 pa (tax free).
The Scholarship term is 3 years. Candidates for the scholarships must be

of $14,000 pa (taxable) for Laboratory engagement.

2008 Google Australia and New Zealand Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates' academic background and demonstrated leadership. A group of female undergraduate and graduate student finalists will be chosen from the applicant pool. The scholarship recipients will each receive a $5,000 scholarship for the 2009 academic year and an expenses-paid trip to the 2009 Grace Hopper Conference in the United States. Remaining finalists will receive $1,000 each.

Applicants must satisfy all of the following criteria to be eligible:
- Be a female student who has completed one or more years of a B.Sc/B.Eng degree with at least one year of study remaining, whether as part of a Bachelors or postgraduate degree

The Institute of Computer Science at the University of Innsbruck, Austria,

Parallel Systems Group (DPS).

Your areas of interest should comprise:
- Application development and runtime environments for multi-core parallel
architectures
- Program analysis and optimizations for parallel systems
- Programming languages and methods for multiprocessor architectures
